The Professional Health Careers program provides students with academic health care foundations and an overview of therapeutic services, diagnostic services, health informatics, and support services within medical care. This course is open to 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students who are interested in learning skills required in many fields of medicine, such as physician, dental care, physical therapy, emergency medical services, administrative medical services, pharmacy, and laboratory careers. A student internship is possible during the fourth term of this one year program.
Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) has adopted a Career Cluster system to organize the teaching and learning that is needed to develop a well rounded cross-skilled workforce. These career clusters are “groupings of interrelated occupations that represent the full range of career opportunities”. The Maryland Careers Cluster Booklet provides a more complete example of careers and educational opportunities that CTC’s Professional Health Careers program may lead to. The Health & Biosciences cluster begins on page 26 of the booklet.
The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) provides resources for parents and students, as well as sharing their current and future plans for our students’ educations.
