PRINCIPLES OF HEATING, VENTILATION,
AIR CONDITIONING, AND PLUMBING

Course Description

Utilizing the Associated Builders and Contractors (A.B.C.) Wheels of Learning curriculum, this nationally developed competency-based, task-oriented curriculum orients students toward beginning a formal apprenticeship program.

Instruction consists of an integrated approach of theory and hands-on experiences to prepare students to install, repair, assemble, and maintain heating and air conditioning systems.

Students will learn the approved practices for installing and maintaining all piping systems involved in sanitary drainage, storm water management, and developing potable water supply systems.

Students will also learn piping practices for refrigeration and cooling. Also included is hot water piping for building heat using oil and gas fuels. Fire protection systems are studied. Experiences are provided in metals and fiberboard duct fabrication/installation, blueprint reading, establishing system layouts and interpretation of manufacturer’s specifications.

Teacher Comments

Do you enjoy being warm on a cold night? Having good potable water to consume? Everyone does.

The HVACP program is designed to teach students skills that will allow all of us to continue to have our comfort. These skills will always be needed and as technologies change, new skills will have to be acquired.

For students who attend class and show the desire to learn, gaining entry-level job placement skills is not out of the question. Just as an example of the wonderful hands on experience we provide for each student, currently, the Level 2 students are installing the plumbing system in the house project, while the Level 1 students are working on the heat, A. C. units and installing ductwork.

Upon completion of this course, students can receive their Standard State Apprentice License and hours from the program can be deducted from the 7,500 required before sitting for the Journeyman’s exam.

The contractors of Frederick County and across the nation are seeking young men and women who want to learn skills that will last a lifetime and provide them with a career that is rewarding. Please contact me for more information!

Student Quotes

It's fun and you can chill and work with your close and best friends. The teachers are laid back sometimes when they get their coffee in the morning!

Lawrence J.

It's a good job to have and plumbers and HVAC technicians are always needed.
