MARKETING EDUCATION

Course Description

This is a business program offered only at the Career and Technology Center for the college-bound or career bound student interested in a career in marketing, merchandising, and management. Students learn display fundamentals, advertising, selling, promotion, customer service, and management skills. Juniors completing academic requirements may begin their on-the-job training in the spring of their junior year. Students prepare for jobs in banks, insurance companies, real estate agencies, boutiques, department stores, and business offices. The second year consists of on-the-job training, and students work in local businesses. Students participate in numerous Leadership Development Conferences sponsored by the national youth organization, DECA (an association of marketing students).

(Courses must be taken and passed in sequence.)

Students completing Marketing I and Marketing II with at least a “B” average may receive seven college credits from Frederick Community College for the Introduction to Business class and the Cooperative Education program.

When taken for 2 credits, this class takes up 2 of the 3 45-minute sessions offered at the Career and Technology Center (CTC). When taken for 3 credits, it uses all 3 45-minute sessions at the CTC.

The students have excelled in all aspects of the program and have received state and national recognition for their accomplishments. Seniors in the program have received many scholarship awards this year and graduates have been extremely successful in college!
