Teacher Comments

Our Electrical Construction program will help you become well-grounded in the power of power.

Electricity, the machinery and appliances it runs, touches every part of our lives. From morning toast to evening TV, you depend on electricity (and the professionals who provide it). Frederick's CTC Electrical Construction program will show you how to use electrical skills to empower your career.

Wiring a house is a lesson included in the skills taught at CTC. Yet home wiring is just one of the jobs available for qualified electricians. Electrical maintenance, industrial process control, motor control, and power (utility) work all require qualified electricians.

Electrical construction is so much more than installing wiring and lights.

Units of study include:

  • AC and DC Circuits
  • Electrical Theory
  • Residential and Commercial Wiring
  • Motor Control
  • Electrical Code Compliance
  • Blueprint Reading
  • Grounding Techniques
  • Electrical Maintenance & Troubleshooting
  • Instruments and Measurements
  • Related Math

A large part of the Electrical Construction program is hands-on instruction, including electrical maintenance work around the school and the wiring of a student built house. Still, the classroom portion of the course can be quite demanding. Understanding electrical theory from magnetism to resistance and the math formulas that go along with them demands a dedicated student with good math skills.

The ideal Electrical student is good in math (fractions, decimals, and Algebra), an electrical student must also have good attendance and be able to follow directions. Problem solving and logic skills are a major plus. Job placement for Construction Electricity graduates typically exceeds 80%. Hourly rates for journeyman range from $15 to $20 per hour. So why don't you take advantage of this growing field and give light to your life.
