VALUE ADDED

Automotive Youth Educational Systems (AYES) offers a complete school-to-career program beginning in the Junior year in over 400 schools in 46 states. The Automotive Technology Program at the Frederick County Career and Technology Center is 1 of 12 AYES recognized schools located in Maryland. AYES is a nationally recognized initiative which includes a paid, mentored internship opportunity for students in the field of automotive technology, with strong connections to post-secondary/college programs.

AYES allows students to learn the high tech craft of automotive technology through classroom instruction, plus experience the career through a paid mentored internship at a local dealership during the summer between his or her junior and senior year in high school. This two-year program combining education and experiential training, begins in a student’s junior year of high school . This training , emphasizes technical skills and applied academics, and teaches professional development skills with employability training , as well as safety and environmental certifications as well.

Today’s young men and women need careers that offer them the chance to turn their passion into a lifelong career. AYES is a nationally-recognized business and education partnership made up of 14 manufacturers , and the National Automobile Dealers Association, plus state automotive dealer associations , and the state department s of education . This partnership that combines a rigorous educational process with job shadowing, mentoring, employability skills, and hands-on training to prepare young men and women for entry-level positions in the service career in new car dealerships and for post-secondary opportunities in college or certificate-based schools.

**Students selected for AYES must successfully complete their junior year of the Auto Technology program.

ASE Credit:

  • One-year credit towards the two-year experience required for ASE Technician Certification.

FCPS Credit:

  • Upon successful completion of the AYES Summer Internship, students may earn 1 elective credit.
