Students have the opportunity to complete over 200 NATEF tasks associated with these units in a modern repair facility at the Frederick County Career & Technology Center.
The Automotive Technology Program goes beyond learning how to repair a vehicle and focuses on the development of skills necessary for employment. In a fast paced commercial repair facility technicians may not always have time to stop and read every procedure before repairing the vehicle. It is important to know as much as possible about the automotive systems used in vehicles and the basic methods and procedures used in repairs. The students develop problem-solving abilities that are key in solving customer concerns, and develop a working knowledge of professional work ethics and safety.
The Automotive Technology Program utilizes the Automotive Youth Educational System’s (AYES) curriculum and offers the opportunity for students who qualify to participate in the AYES internship program. For more information on AYES visit www.ayes.org
Graduates of this program are encouraged to go on to post-secondary education at technical colleges or pursue a four-year degree that will compliment their automotive interests. (See the career options page)
Mathematics, (including algebra) and a strong physical science background are recommended for success in this program.
